Home business Internet marketing has become one of the favorite businesses of stay at home parents. The reason behind this popular choice is that online marketing does not cost as much capital as putting up your own store and keeping inventories. If you are one of those who are contemplating of putting up your own home business Internet marketing and earning a living out of it, it might be good to consider affiliate marketing.

Most affiliate marketing programs does not require you to up capital to sell their products. All you need to have is a website where you can put the logo of the merchants and provide a link to their site. Like all other business be it home business internet marketing or the traditional brick and mortar form of business, there are many challenges you need to contend with in order to succeed and earn good money.

The first thing that you will need to contend with when you opt to incorporate affiliate marketing in your home business internet marketing is that some merchant sites are rather difficult to navigate. Customers are often turn-off from buying their products because it is difficult to browse through. Often times, merchant sites, which are difficult to navigate, also have complicated payment system that people who do not have the patience to deal with complications may just leave the site without buying at all. You as an online marketer often don't have any say on the merchants website. The best thing you can do is screen out merchant websites properly before displaying their logo on your own website. It would be best for you to try and navigate your merchant's website to gauge whether or not a buyer would easily find what eh or she needs. Only provide links for those merchant websites that are user friendly if you hope to sell something and earn a commission.

Another thing that you will need to focus on when you are engaged in home business Internet marketing is that most merchant sites are not very attractive to online shoppers. You will need to market their sites aggressively in you website by providing information to buyers. When you sell the products of your merchant, it would be best to use text link instead of banners. Moreover, relationship marketing is a good tool, which you must use to earn good money in home base internet marketing. The cardinal rule in relationship marketing is that you build a good relationship with your clients and gain their trust. Where a client trusts your judgment, they will be more open to buying the products you are endorsing. Building trust could take a long time but the returns are good ones you have that kind of relationship with your clients.

The best advertising, whether for a small business or large, is advertising that works. The price a small business owner pays for advertising would not be an issue if the outcome of the ad was known. If a small business owner had a choice of paying $1000 a month for advertising that brought in a guarantee of at least $2000 a month profit, or paying $500 a month for advertising that brought in $750 worth of profit a month, there would be no hesitation. That savvy small business owner would gladly shell out $1000 each month for the advertising.

Small business advertising has no such guarantees however. It's not like buying a refrigerator that is guaranteed to keep the milk and eggs cold. $1000 of advertising might bring $8000 of profit, or it might bring in zero. So, what's a small business owner to do, especially if faced with a limited budget?

The best answer is to use small business advertising that only charges the owner when and if it works. There are several ways of doing this.

The primary method is called pay per click. This Internet option is available with numerous online merchant sites as well as hundreds of newspapers across the country and the globe. Simply put, a small business agrees to pay a specified amount to the publisher, or the merchant site, for each ad that entices a consumer to come to the small business site. The price paid is generally an amount that the small business owner has bid on. More and more newspapers are offering this option as they struggle to maintain competitive online with eBay, Craigslist and other pure play classified and marketplace sites.

Another option for pay per click and inexpensive advertising for a small business that wants to concentrate on local customers is with regional publications or some of the larger metropolitan newspapers and groups that are introducing citizen media sites. These zoned products offer a much less expensive buy because the small business advertiser is buying the local neighborhood instead of the total metropolitan circulation of the metropolitan paper.

Companies such as YourHub.com, a product of the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News, are licensing these citizen media sites to other newspapers in other areas and those welcome small business advertising and discount the price. They also encourage citizen journalism. The small business owner can contribute articles, photos and local stories, although the paper will undoubtedly edit something too unabashedly self-serving. This is still a great way for a local entrepreneur to introduce himself or herself to the neighbors in a friendly, casual and soft sell way.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has proposed new legislation that would, according to some, protect consumers from fraudulent network marketing business schemes, but according to the network marketing industry leaders might sound the death knell of legitimate multi level marketing businesses.

The proposed legislation, about which the FTC will take consumer comments until mid July 2006, is being called Business Opportunity Rule R511993.

This proposed law that targets network marketing business would create new definitions for the terms business assistance, earnings claims, and business opportunity, broadening the language so that it includes a lot of common business practices that don't now fall under the business opportunity category. It would require that a network marketing business representative provide a detailed and factual statement of disclosure a minimum of seven days before any prospect contracts with or pays the network marketing business provider.

The legislation would also require that the network marketing business disclose in the statement any prior lawsuits, the statistics on prior contractors that had cancelled their contracts with the business within two years of signing, and a reference list. The latter would be those who purchased or contracted with the network marketing business in the prior three years.

An additional require in this business opportunity legislation is disclosure to prospective purchasers of a statement of earnings claims that would have extensive information on earnings, with frequent updates.

Network marketing executives and association representatives believe that the business opportunity legislation would negatively affect the entire industry and require multi level marketing first to change their sales methods to comply.
The claim of these network marketing managers is that the requirements would be burdensome and oppressive for the firms and the distributors and that buying cars, large appliances and even assault weapons or hand guns would be more easily accomplished than becoming a network marketing business distributor.

These MLM executives are beseeching distributors and other interested parties to write to the FTC and express their dismay with this proposed business opportunity legislation. They are convinced that passage of the bill would set off unnecessary alarms about the legitimacy of network marketing businesses and the way they compensate their distributors. They state that the proposed legislated procedures would be a violation of distributor privacy, would be time consuming and would lead to the loss of interest on the part of enthusiastic prospects. The claim of these network marketing business leaders is that this FTC legislation would increase considerably the costs of doing business for not only the multi level marketing businesses themselves but the distributors as well.

Here are some general start-up tips for a successful home business.

The first tip is a word of caution. It's easy to think that because your home business can bypass the lease or construction aspects of starting a business, and the overhead costs of furnishing, maintenance, landscaping, utilities and so forth, that you can skip over some other processes to. That attitude, rather than heading someone down the road to a successful home business, could lead to financial business disaster.

An entrepreneurial spirit and a great idea are terrific assets for a successful home business. Other things are important too, however.

Market research and careful planning are of paramount important to the success of a home business, as they are for any business. A business plan is a must. It must include details on the products and services the firm will offer, the type of business equipment and the cost of it that will be needed in the coming five years. It should also include information on the competition in the designated market area. This information should include ways that the new home business will be successful in competing - how it is unique and how it is an improvement over what else is out there in the same industry.

A successful home business is one that is set up as the right legal entity. One of the first things new home based entrepreneurs should do is learn the legal consequences and liabilities of the various business types, as well as the tax consequences of each. A home business might be more successful as a partnership than sole proprietorship, for example, if additional cash flow is needed, or the entrepreneur is deficient in a crucial home business skill such as advertising, marketing or accounting, for example. An accountant can advise on the various options such as limited liability corporations, S corporations, standard corporations, limited partnerships and so forth.

Unless a successful home business is going to include walk in customers homeowner's or renters insurance should provide adequate financial protection against theft or natural disaster. Of course, as equipment and furnishings are added, the insurance would need to increase. If clients were to come to the home office location, liability insurance would protect the firm from the financial devastating situation of customer injury.

A successful home business is one that is well planned and well funded. There is no such thing as too much preparation.
